So your day finally comes and they send you home, or at least to some destination in the Arabic world. If you thought your treatment at Gitmo was not good, you have no idea of what awaits you.
    You have been been a prisoner at Guantánamo Bay for two or more years. Your captors are not required to afford you any of the rights associated with the Geneva Convention because you have been labeled as an enemy combatant — not an enemy soldier. Your country never declared war but it would appear that this doesn't count. You never joined an army because there wasn't one. And, of course, you had no choice of what army you would join.
    You knew one thing for certain. Those invaders are killing your people!
    You have been captured, imprisoned, tortured and survived horrendous treatment. Any definition that existed for torture before your conflict has been changed to facilitate and legitimize those things done to you and your countrymen.
    Your country has been invaded by your captors and 99,445† of your fellow citizens have been killed by your captors and his allies. Their invasion was not based on any truths.
    Yes, you had been treated horribly by your former leader, but these new ones are not any different. The body counts are almost similar. People are killed, imprisoned and deprived of human rights just like the old times.
    But, now you are now free.

What are you going to do now?
    Lets see. If your country could be invaded by another country who says they are getting even and waging war for atrocities executed by terrorists from yet another country— not yours — wouldn't your thoughts turn to revenge? If you never thought of being a combatant, wouldn't you want to be one now? After all, you have reasons to be angry.
    In all likelihood, your home has been destroyed, your family decimated, your chances of making a living severely compromised, and getting a clean drink of water is dificult.
    The only employment available that pays would be as a member of your police force or your army, but you don't qualify for either because you were classified as an enemy combatant by the foreigners.
    Your only way to survive is to take a job as a garbage man. Being classified as an enemy combatant even makes this employment a remote possibility. There are non-combatants who also need to earn a wage.
    Wouldn't you want to join the combatants who are trying to drive those invasion forces out of your country?

What if positions were reversed?
    If the positions were reversed what would US Americans do? I think they would be glorified as heroes if they went underground, waged a guerilla war on the invaders, killed as many of them as possible, and basically made things miserable for the invading force. You know — the fly in their ointment thing!
    Now add to this picture the fact that your country had been conceived by the very countries that are now your invaders. In 1919, they created borders and three divergent groups were thrust inside and were called your fellow citizens. The fact that you had not liked each other for over a thousand years didn't seem to matter to these nation builders. Now, of course, the matter is further complicated by a question of "who gets the oil?"
    Imagine, if you could, what things would be like if you created a new nation and stocked it with US Americans, Russians and Chinese in inequal numbers. How much harmony would exist? If a military force from an alliance of nations was given the job of keeping the peace, it is possible that at least one of these three groups would do their best to rid your new nation of the peace keepers (who, incidentally, were favouring one of the other groups) and get on with your own forms of justice, politics, religion and culture. You may struggle among yourselves, but you won't have other nations monitoring your every move to return to your concepts of stability given that you never wanted to be linked to the other guys in the first place.
    Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that those invaders are helping themselves to your natural resources. They don't consider their action as stealing. They just want you to pay for the cost of their war.

    Now, if every side in this outrageous affair functioned without religion, would things be better?
    I think it would be. Nations just need to learn that they can function . . . without gods!
