Surviving and thriving . . . Without Gods! You will find more joy and happiness in your life if you discover living . . . without gods! by Anton Kozlik

I have always had a soft spot for greeting cards, but . . .
I realize now that I was making some mistakes!

For years I experienced great pride designing greeting cards for friends and family. I did cards for birthdays, weddings, births and anniversaries. I also believed I had found a special method to extend my wishes for receivers to enjoy special events in my atheist world like Solstices and Equinoxes.
I realize now that I was wrong. Since none of them were atheists I was, in effect, sending people the equivalent of a birthday card on my birthday – not theirs!
This year I purposely left Christian friends and associates off my list to receive my December Solstice and March Equinox cards. I heard complaints.
Apparently, many of them liked my previous years' designs so much they would have them framed and hung them in their homes. They wanted more of them.
For a while, I was troubled by my decision not to send them cards, and then reality set in. Only two ever sent me non-religious greeting cards although many persisted in sending me Christmas cards even though they knew I didn't observe it. (Thank goodness I hadn't eliminated those two from my list. I sent them traditional religious greeting cards from a card shop. I do the same thing now for my Chinese and Jewish friends.)
I have now designed enough cards to greet my fellow atheists for at least five years. One of them might send me a card some day. I hope I live that long. The next one will be my first one.
I will continue to design greeting cards. It is a creative exercise to offset my writing. I don't do religious designs anymore. In my earlier life, religious communities liked my designs.
I designed a statue for the entrance of a Catholic retreat in Quebec, a monthly Christian Reform periodical (Vanguard Magazine), and a cross for a religious television series (Crossroads).
They never cared about my atheism – only my talent as a designer. They didn't seem to object to the fact that I had learned to live
. . . without gods!

My definition of morality . . .

“No one should expose another living entity to unwarranted pain, loss, or deprivation!”

        *Terms and            Definitions
My articles may contain words or phrases that may infer different meanings to different readers, or the reader may be unfamiliar with the term or its definition. I feel it is important to know what the writer meant when he used a word or term.

cognitive dissonance
Filtering out information that conflicts with what one already believes, in an effort to ignore that information and reinforce one’s beliefs.

Editors note: I will be repeating the “cognitive dissonance” definition for quite a while since it is practiced by so many — known by so few!

Grandpa said . . .

“The secret of success for a designer/writer is to create a good hotdog sign for less than a dollar — and make a profit!”

He believed that in the world of designers and writers there was too much window dressing for empty stores. You could spend a lot of time wining and dining your clients and eventually believe that your success requires it. Also, our world is full of clients that want to be wined and dined. "Forget them," he said. They don't want good design, just excuses to enjoy good wines.

As a young boy, I remembered these words of wisdom from my Grandfather.  I share them with you.
